The Ted Leo/Pharmacists Community's Journal [entries|friends|calendar]
The Ted Leo/Pharmacists Community

Me & Johnny sitting in the green grass; I don't remember too much from that far back in the past, but man, oh man, was Jonathan a laugh in those days. Apparently, he was my very best friend. We spent warm summer days wishing they would never end, but I only know from photographs I look at every now & again. J-J-Johnny, oh, all he left us was an apple tree. & oh, where'd it go, & oh, why'd it leave? Oh, why do I grieve? Now I don't ever see Jonathan no more, but my life rolls on just like it did before, & I only wonder what it is that I even miss him for.

NEW SONG! (and some other stuff...) [23 Sep 2009|10:20pm]

I figured this might be a good place to post about this:

It looks like Ted and the merry band of Pharmacists did a Progress Report over at Stereogum, complete with photos and a rough mix of a song he's calling "Last Days."

Holy heck, am I excited for this album! Which is, apparently, coming out on Matador.

Cool beans, yeah?

from Ted's website:

URGENT, URGENT - BREAKING NEWS: We have a hastily written and recorded EP up for download on the Touch and Go site! It's four songs for four dollars, and ALL PROCEEDS GO TO BENEFIT DEMOCRACY NOW! AND MINNEAPOLIS FOOD NOT BOMBS. For those who wish to contribute more than the asking price to these organizations, Touch and Go gives a number of options for contributing - and neither us nor the label take a cent from your donations - the entirety of the money goes to support true journalism, truth telling, and community service, via Democracy Now! and Food not Bombs.

For the rest of his entry about the album, go here!

To download the music, go here!

With the download, you get 4 tracks, the liner notes (which are what is written in the blog entry) and a large version of the cover art. It's raw, it's hasty, it's awesome.

The World Is In The Turlet [04 Jun 2008|10:17am]

Last night on WFMU's "The Best Show on WFMU", host Tom Scharpling invited his listeners to give him lyrics to cobble together a song that Ted Leo and the Pharmacists would play later on that show. You can hear the whole show (6/3/08) on their archive (including lots of Teddy), but here is the actual song and here are the lyrics. No, they are not meant to be serious.

Big Steve is on the drum set
Counting it four by four
Little Jimmy jamming the six-string
Giving the people more

Count Violence bringing the low-end
Cuz that's all that he knows what to do
And my name's Ted
That's what I said

And the western world will perish in fifteen years

And then in the year sixteen when the world is clean
Clean of this hipster scene
Well all their ghosts will scream for what their souls have seen
And the tapas they could have been eating

The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
And we're all gonna die.

The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
So don't ask why

Come on!

Nothing to drink I've got nothing to eat
I'm barely alive I'm dead on my feet
The East River boiled and belched up a cadaver
The corpse walked to Enid's for a drink and some pelaver

The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
And we're all gonna die

The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
The world is in the turlet
So don't ask why

The proof is in the pudding
The proof is in the pudding
The proof is in the pudding
And you don't ask why

I said
The proof is in the pudding
The proof is in the pudding
The proof is in the pudding
So give it a try

Ted Leo's playing at Mccarren Pool in brooklyn on Aug 12th.
Anyone going to this?

I've never been to Mccarren pool before and on their site it says to RSVP. Is that really necessary or can you just show up? Is there going to be a big bouncer dude with a list of names at the entrance? Hah.

European Tour Cancelled [02 Jul 2007|03:29pm]

From the Lookout! Records website:
Apologies to all fans, but due to a family emergency all remaining Ted Leo and the Pharmacists tour dates in Europe have been canceled.

And from the forums on TimorousMe:
Last night Ted Leo announced on-stage at his Glasgow show that it would be the last of the tour, and that all further shows on the tour would be cancelled.

He stated that he had to return to New Jersey. It appeared to be for personal reasons as details were sparse.

The band nonetheless played a spectacular show with all the energy you would expect from Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. To close the show, Ted threw off his guitar, narrowly missing the drumkit, and leapt into the arms of the crowd. And so it was that a Glasgow audience (in a city that was that day victim of a terrorist incident) and a legendary man (who had clearly had some sort of bad news, whatever that may have been), supported each other as a difficult day came to a close.

I hope he's okay.

Human Giant [18 May 2007|12:40pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

I was just watching the Human Giant 24 hour marathon, and, lo and behold, Mr. Ted Leo was one of their guests. I don't know if anyone else caught it, but I must say that his flawless and entertaining recovery when his amp went out for a second is part of what makes him so endearing to me. Hopefully a clip will surface on the internet soon.

[12 May 2007|03:35pm]

if anyone is interested, i wrote up a review of the webster hall show for the long island press:

come baby come

the avalon, boston: 5/4/07 [07 May 2007|06:24pm]

every time that i see him i love him a little bit more and this time was absolutely no exception.
despite the typical "all ages show" crowd (thinking that its wicked cool to try and mosh to "me and mia"), it was his best live performance--or at least most energetic--out of the five times that ive seen him in the past two years.

so they kicked off with "sons of cain" and ended with "rappaports testament: i never gave up".
the last song was utterly amazing because ted got so into it that he threw down the mic stand and got on his knees and just screamed "I NEVER GAVE UP, I NEVER GAVE UP, I CRAWLED THROUGH THE MUD BUT I NEVER GAVE UP" with the veins in his neck bulging and the sweat from his forehead flying into the crowd.

he also talked about how he had lived in boston and it felt like home to him and then played "dirty old town" dedicated to us; it made me so happy that he loves boston as much as i do.
he played a LOT of new stuff (which was fantastic), a moderate amount of older stuff, and no covers--although he did play part of a really popular techno-y song that i knew but didnt know the name of.

oh, and daves hair is wild, but not as long as it has been; he looks kind of like a really mild-mannered slash.
and i think that that is all.

love always,

p.s. here are some photos (i had to put my camera away after like three songs because the crowd was immature and i didnt want it to get ripped from my hands so these didnt come out the greatest even though i was in the second row):
